IDEM's RM-Ex Explosion Proof Non Contact Switch is manufactured with a Stainless Steel 316 Cylindrical housing making it suitable for industry applications where the threat of explosion exists, particularly in the hazardous conditions created within the Petro-Chemical, Food Processing and Pharmaceutical industries. The RM-Ex is designed with highly reliable power reed switching elements, contacts de-rated and protected by internal fuses with high tolerance to guard misalignment.
Manufactured with a magnetic sensing system which provides a wide sensing distance and provides a high tolerance to misalignment after sensing. The RM-Ex can be fitted behind stainless steel fittings and can operate in extreme environments of temperature and moisture. The switch comes pre-wired with either 5M or 10M of cable and is available with 2NC 1NO circuits.

The RM-Ex is particularly advantageous when:

• Poor guard alignment exists.
• High hygiene requirements exist, e.g. food industry hose down.
• A long mechanical life is required (no moving or touching parts).

IDEM's ATEX Certified range of HLM-Ex Explosion Proof Safety Limit Switches have been manufactured with Heavy Duty Die-Cast Metal bodies and have been designed to be mounted for position sensing of moving applications e.g. guard doors, conveyors, machine beds, elevators in atmospheres where the potential for explosion exists. They are available with a choice of linear or rotary heads. Operation of the switches is achieved by a sliding actuation of the moving object to cause deflection of the switch plungers or levers. For safety applications it is important that the moving object does not pass completely over the switch actuators so as to either cause damage to the actuator or allow it to return to its original position. All HLM Explosion Proof Limit Switches are supplied pre-wired with 3m of cable.

The designation 'wheel sensor originates in the sensor switches which PINTSCH TIEFENBACH has been developing and manufacturing since starting its business operations in the 1950s, which are activated by non-contact magnets (magnetic switches) or by metal masses, so-called inductive proximity switches. The latter were enhanced for use as wheel detectors in the railway industry, and because they are affixed to rails for this application, are referred to as wheel sensors. PINTSCH TIEFENBACH's extensive experience in manufacturing sensors was decisive for the product designation, which has remained in use until today. Depending on the application, a distinction is made between single wheel sensors for vehicle detection and switching tasks, and double wheel sensors for direction detection, axle counting and speed measurements. PINTSCH TIEFENBACH's expertise in the manufacture of wheel sensors is based on more than 30 years of experience in which these products have been consistently enhanced and improved. Application:

• The switches are used as magnet-sensitive, non-contact pulse and latching switches. Components and mode of functioning The solenoid switches consist of cast-resin insulated inert gas contacts that are integrated in a corrosion-proof switch housing. By moving a magnet passed the switch the contact closes or opens. During the closing procedure the magnetic field increases in a square progression while the gap between the contact studs becomes increasingly smaller and then the contacts close with snap action. Due to the small distance between the contact studs and their low mass the contacts are switched with virtually no inertia. Pulse switch (monostable) in this switch design the switch is actuated for as long as it is influenced by the magnetic field. When removing the magnet the switch returns to its resting position.

Emergency Stop (E Stop) switches are used by operators to shutdown a machine,system, or process. Emergency Stop Switches are mounted on machines and sections of plant conveyors that cannot be protected by guards. In combination with any dual channel safety monitoring controllers these switches can be used as emergency stop devices and monitored for up to Category 4/PLe to ISO13849-1. All IDEM's Emergency Stop Switches conform to European Standard EN ISO13850 (formerly EN418) and IEC60947-5-5. They have a positive mechanical linkage between the switch contacts and the E Stop Button. The switches are mechanically latched and can then only be returned to the operational condition by pressing the reset button as required by EN ISO13850. IDEM's range of Explosion Proof E stop switches can withstand sparking and flames and are IECEx and ATEX certified.
